Long before she became a Master Designer, decades before she was the founder and CEO of ZB Couture, Zahra Batool was just another little girl with big dreams and even bigger talent. Growing up in Pakistan, there was nothing that made Zahra happier than a box full of crayons or a few bottles of paint. As a result, she spent hour upon hour creating beautiful pictures and fantasizing about becoming a real artist when she grew up.
As a teen, she applied and was accepted to the prestigious National College of Arts and Lahore in Pakistan, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Textile Design. It was there that she began to fuse her artistic abilities with textiles. But Zahra wanted something more. She wanted to take her beautifully painted works and bring them to life, transforming them from single dimension fabrics to living, breathing 3D pieces.
In 2008, Zahra moved to New York for post-graduate study at the famed Fashion Institute of Technology . It was there that she began to fuse her printed fabrics with elegant dress forms. And it was there that she realized her dream of bringing her artwork to life, watching as her creations danced and swirled on fashion runways. Zahra has had an inspiring nine-year career designing prints for leading international textile companies and is currently working with luxury retailer, Neiman Marcus as an event live artist.
Each gown in her debut collection is inspired by the natural and symbolic beauty of the rose. Considered a sacred flower and a symbol of love and beauty, the rose is reflected in each gown’s expression of colors, textures, and hand-painted motifs and since each one is individually crafted, no two are exactly alike.
With ZB Couture, Zahra embraced her passion for designing formal and bridal dresses for women who appreciate art and are not content to go unnoticed. Every dress is a hand-painted romance on fabric – moving, flowing, serving as a testament to the blossoming of new love. Each dress is a physical representation of the love that Zahra infuses into every one of her hand-crafted couture designs.
Because she understands and has mastered silk’s unique and natural ability to drink in hand-painted color in such distinctive ways, Zahra works almost exclusively with luxurious silk fabrics — perfectly controlling the colors and the brushstrokes to create designs that are most pleasing to the eye.
Because every woman is unique, each design is custom made. Every dress silhouette and hand-painted design results in a couture gown that enhances and complements the wearer. And because Zahra’s designs are timeless, her gowns are designed to be worn again and again.
Since her debut, Zahra has participated in many New York & New Jersey fashion events, trunk shows, and styled shoots. She has also successfully collaborated with Bergdorf Goodman and Pildora. Her work has been featured in Bibi & Tatler magazines.
When she is not creating her custom design creations, Zahra can most often be found spending time with her family, practicing yoga, or painting in her studio.
All this from a little girl who dreamed of becoming an artist.
